Boyce Thompson Arboretum Daydreams

There are many times when I’m stuck inside dreaming of a different place. In the waiting room of my doctor’s office, eagerly anticipating my Postmates order, or sitting in an auto-body shop as my car’s oil gets changed. I often find myself wistfully looking out a window, imagining all the possible adventures on the other side of the glass.

Some may knock daydreaming, but it’s one of my favorite pastimes - reminiscing about previous trips, special parties and spontaneous adventures. These memories provide inspiration for my future plans and help me prioritize what makes me happy.

Amazingly, I have an app on my phone that notifies me of my favorite memories, giving me ample daydream material. I get notifications when my photos hit annual mile-markers, and I can’t think of a technology-based service that brings me more satisfaction. It was recently, when I was stuck indoors while working from home, that I got a notification of a past trip.

Last May, I visited Boyce Thompson Arboretum and the excursion provided many happy memories that bring me a lot of joy to think about now.

Located about 60 miles outside of Phoenix, Boyce Thompson Arboretum offers the perfect day trip for those living in or visiting the Valley. In about an hour's drive, visitors will be transported to various lush (and photogenic!) desert landscapes.

The Arboretum is located in Superior, Arizona, and temperatures in the area are about five to ten degrees cooler than Scottsdale. Less crowded than the Phoenix Botanical Gardens, Boyce Thompson Arboretum allows for more exploration and independence in nature. The Arboretum boasts mature eucalyptus trees, a cactus greenhouse, succulent garden and sweeping mountain views.

I recommend packing a snack, grabbing your Couloir water bottle, and visiting the beautiful Boyce Thompson Arboretum. The photos, and memories, will provide inspiration for future adventures and give you plenty to daydream about.
